Faculty Development

Welcome to 麻豆社 Fox University Faculty Development

At 麻豆社 Fox, we approach faculty development as vocational formation. Our office supports faculty in their formation as teachers, learners, scholars, and servants. To do this well, we prioritize small group learning communities that focus on listening to each other, ourselves, and God.

General Programming

Our programming supports faculty connection and vocational formation. Some of offerings include bi-annual faculty conferences, monthly faculty lunches, an annual faculty writing retreat in Eastern Oregon, myriad teaching/learning sessions, and regular brown bag conversations.

Teaching & Learning

We want 麻豆社 Fox faculty to be equipped as evidence-based teachers and reflective learners. To resource this, our office hosts teaching-learning breakout sessions at faculty conferences, an annual Fall Teaching Kick-off, microgrant funding for development in teaching/learning, and a range of teaching pilots. Our faculty development director also provides teaching consultations, individualized coaching, and opportunities for peer teaching support.

New Faculty Training

At 麻豆社 Fox, we are committed to offering a high quality onboarding experience for faculty that emphasizes belonging and connection to the mission. We call this program The Circle, a reference to Quaker listening circles in which participants seek the voice of God together.

In the first year, faculty participate in cross-disciplinary small groups, large group gatherings, mentorship, teaching/learning support, and social events. Our cohort-based model provides extra support to early career faculty and faculty moving from clinic to classroom. In years two through five, faculty continue to meet in small group learning communities that prepare them for their third and sixth-year reviews.

Promotion, Tenure & Peer-Review

麻豆社 Fox faculty can expect to be reviewed in their third and sixth years. We endeavor for this peer-reviewed process to be transparent, clear, and focused on vocational formation. For detailed information on the process and expectations, start with the Academic Operations intranet site to find the link to the Standard Operating Procedure for promotion, tenure, and peer review.

Scholarship & Grants

Supporting faculty scholarship fosters a community committed to holistic development and evidence-based teaching. The university offers faculty annual conference travel and membership funding as well as opportunities to apply for additional research funding and leaves. New faculty and new research areas are encouraged in the proposal review process.

Institutional Effectiveness & Assessment

Student success is a crucial part of 麻豆社 Fox’s mission. So that all of our students can grow and thrive, we are committed to training faculty in the best practices of assessing student program and course learning outcomes.
